Congress to contest all assembly seats in Telangana: TPCC Spokesperson

Congress is set to contest all assembly seats in Telangana State, the party spokesperson revealed in a major announcement much ahead of elections in the 29th Indian state.

“The Congress party is going to contest from all assembly seats, including those that fall under Old City [of Hyderabad],” Shujat Ali “Sufi” told Hyderabad Youth Mirror (HYM).

Today, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) appointed Mr. Shujat as its official spokesperson and media coordinator.

TPCC vice president Mallu Ravi officially communicated about the same to Mr. Shujat. Speaking to HYM, Mr Shujat confirmed it and revealed that the party would contest from all assembly seats.

He becomes the second most powerful Muslim figure after Mohammed Ali Shabbir in the TPCC led by incumbent president Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Mr. Shujat is an ex-bureaucrat with a long career in media and public relations. In an exclusive interview to us last month, he spoke about his association with the Congress party as NSUI president and communal politics in the state.

In Hyderabad and beyond, he is viewed as a “sufi” and ambassador of communal harmony.
