Apple CEO Tim Cook to Open Development Center in Hyderabad Today

Apple chief executive officer (CEO) Tim Cook is scheduled to visit Hyderabad today and open its new development center, which would create 4,000 jobs.

Tennis star from Hyderabad, Sania Mirza posted a picture with Apple CEO Tim Cook and Super Shahrukh Khan on her Twitter handle. It confirms that Cook is already in India. He was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well.

IT Secretary of Telangana State, Dr Jayesh Ranjan earlier gave a clear indication that a team from Apple would visit Hyderabad today, but didn’t mention whether CEO will also visit.

Apple now announced opening of the Hyderabad center, which would focus on development of Maps for Apple products, including iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.

“Apple is focused on making the best products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in Hyderabad which will focus on Maps development,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

“The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations.”

Telangana chief minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) said, “We are honored Apple chose Hyderabad as a home for its Maps development office.”

“This will create thousands of jobs here and is a testament to our proactive approach, quality infrastructure and the excellent talent base we have in the region,” KCR added.

Apple announced its plan to open a the company’s first technology development center outside the USA in Hyderabad sometime back. The Telangana government then confirmed that Apple is coming to Hyderabad.

Also, some news reports suggested earlier this month Apple’s OEM partner Foxconn was mulling to establish a manufacturing unit to produce Apple products, including iPhones. However, Apple didn’t confirm Foxconn’s plan to invest $10 billion in Maharashtra.

Apple leased a spacious place in IT campus Waverock SEZ in Gachibowli area. The SEZ is owned by American property development and consultancy firm Tishman Speyer.

Hyderabad’s Apple facility will be used for developing Maps, offering Maps digitization, its support and services, according to Dr. Ranjan. He also said the his department accorded all approvals to the Apple.

The city of pearls is home to numerous big names in IT Industry, including Google, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, and now Apple. A staggering 3.7 lakh professionals work in Hyderabad.
