AIMIM accuses Telangana Govt of Neglecting Old City

Hyderabad (INN): The MIM legislators on Thursday pulled up the Telangana Government for its alleged failures to provide relief to the people with rainfall and heavy winds that lashed the city on May 20.

The MIM MLAs, who came to attend the meeting to review preparations for ensuing Ramzan month, accused the government of totally neglecting the Old City. Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Maozam khan alleged that the people of Old City were yet to get required relief even after five days. He said the supply of drinking water, electricity and drainage system were not restored in many parts of the Old City. He asked what the authorities would do if a similar situation arises during the Ramzan month.

Yakutpura MLA Mumtaz Khan said that the people of Old City were forced to face unofficial power shut down for almost eight hours every day. He said no ex-gratia was paid to the family of a boy who was killed in the tragedy.

Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy entered into an argument with the MIM MLAs on the issue and accused them of leveling baseless allegations. Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said that the heavy wind that struck the city was unprecedented and the government could not be expected to prevent winds or rainfall.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy informed that 7.4 CM of rainfall was recorded in just 11 minutes and the wind speed was nearly 100 KMPH. He said such winds were usually witnessed during cyclones in coastal areas. He said that different agencies were working round the clock to restore the basic amenities for all citizens.

However, the MIM legislators were not convinced with the government’s reply and accused it of deliberately neglecting the Old City. They also condemned the absence of many senior officials in the meeting.

As the arguments between the ruling party and MIM leaders turned heated, the Home Minister ordered that all the media personnel be sent out of the meeting.

TRS MLC Mohammed Saleem, BJP MLA Kishan Reddy and MLC Chintala Ramchander Reddy and senior officials of various departments were also present in the meeting.
