GHMC removes 4,670 encroachments

Hyderabad: As part of facilitating Right to Walk to common public on the foot path, the Vigilance and Enforcement Wing of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has so far removed 4,670 odd encroachment structures in the first phase for the past 3 days in the city, informed GHMC Mayor Dr. Bonthu Rammohan here on Monday.

Addressing in a press conference, the Mayor said that the GHMC would continue the task of removing the encroachment on foot path stretch by stretch one day in a week deploying all the six teams together.

He thanked all the citizens and public representatives for their cooperation in making the drive successes. He also congratulated the Director Vigilance and Enforcement and all the officials of line departments for their active participation and coordination in the drive.

He warned of booking criminal cases and imposing heavy fines against those who again resort to encroachment of foothpaths again.

Further, the Mayor stated that single use plastic ban has already been implemented in all GHMC offices and lot of awareness campaign are being taken up from tomorrow as part of international Plastic Bag free day on July 3rd .

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the citizens have welcomed the encroachments drive and most of them requested the GHMC to continue the drive for the convenience of the citizens on regular basis. (INN)
