Telangana CS reviews functions of minorities’ welfare department

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar Joshi said that over 64,000 Muslim students are studying in 204 Minorities Residential Schools in the State.

The Chief Secretary on Friday conducted a high-level review meeting on Minorities welfare at the State Secretariat here with officials concerned.

In this connection, the Chief Secretary said that regarding Minority Residential Schools, 1321 teacher posts were filled through TSPSC as part of the plan to fill 2635 teaching posts, including 772 now and another 1863 posts through Telangana Residential Educational Institution Recruitment Board (TERI).

He also sought a detailed report on Wakf Lands in all districts wherein some more educational institutes will be built for Muslim youth, he said. “Our plan is to utilise the Wakf lands in a productive manner to boost Muslims education”.

He also asserted that the State Government is determined for providing jobs and employment to Muslim youth through necessary training and skills.

A plan is on the cards to construct a national skill development center in the State to impart training and skills to the youth. He said that the State Government allocated Rs 2000 cr in the budget for the Minorities Welfare and Development for 2018-19 fiscal.

He directed the officials to prepare a project report for setting up a National Skill Development Center which will be forwarded to the Centre for its approval.

The Chief Secretary said that 11,746 applications were approved out of 24,662 received so far under the prestigious marriage scheme of Shadi Mubarak.

He also said that Rs 109 Crore was released to send 968 candidates to pursue foreign education under Minorities Overseas Scholarship scheme.

Joshi said that the Centre sanctioned 7 Minorities Residential Skill Development Centers for 2016-17 with Rs 126 Crore under Multi Sectoral Development with Rs 37.80 cr share and state share Rs 25.20 Crore under 1st phase.

It also sanctioned six residential schools in 2017-18 with Rs 10.08 Crore share and Rs 21.60 Crore state share, he said.

He directed the Minorities Finance Corporation to expedite the schemes of self-employment as the Center for Educational Development of Minorities is offering coaching for Minority youth for Civil Services, SI, competitive exams and constable posts.

Other issues came for discussion on Aneesul Gurba, Jamia Nizamia, Jahangir Peer Darga, Islamic Cultural Center, etc.,

Minorities Welfare Department Secretary Dana Kishore, Director Shahnawaz Qasim, Prof. S.A.Shukoor, Victor and others participated in the meeting. (INN)
