Special Officers take charge of Gram Panchayats

Hyderabad: With the tenure of elected Sarpanches and Ward Members coming to an end, Special Officers took charge of Gram Panchayats across Telangana State on Thursday.

While the five-year term of 8,685 Gram Panchayats ended on Thursday, the term of 18 other panchayats where elections were delayed will continue for next few months.

Further, a total of 4,383 new Gram Panchayats have started functioning from today. Similarly, 17 new municipalities have also come into existence today.

Fresh elections for Gram Panchayats have been delayed following the High Court orders which directed the State Government to conduct enumeration of BC voters before going for polls.
