TSCHE chairman to recommend UGC to accord special academic status to PR as subject

Hyderabad: Prof T Papi Reddy, Chairman, Telangana State Council of Higher Education, assured the Public Relations Society of India’s Hyderabad chapter that he would impress upon UGC or to-be-constituted Higher Education Council of India (HECI) to accord a special academic status to Public Relations as a subject.

He also announced financial assistance to impart training for PR professionals. Prof. Papi Reddy was addressing a gathering to mark the 11 th  National Public Relations Education Day in Potti Sriramulu Telugu University last night.

He, along with Dr. K.V.Ramana Chary, IAS (Retd.), Media Advisor, Government of Telangana; Prof.G.Nagamallika,  Professor, Dept.of Communication, EFLU and Dr.C.V.Narasimha Reddi, Former Director, I& PR, Government of A.P & Editor, Public Relations  Voice, unveiled a logo to mark 60 years of PRSI.

Dr Ramana Chary inducted the new Executive Committee of the PRSI Hyderabad chapter headed by Dr P.Venugopal Reddy. Dr.Ramana Chary observed that PR is a must for everybody and anybody. Being the Chief Patron of the PRSI’s Hyderabad chapter he took up the onus of following it up with Prof.Papi Reddy in dealing with UGC.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr.Narasimha Reddy, whose birthday is celebrated as National PR Education Day across the country, lamented over UGC’s refusal to recognise PR as special academic discipline. “PR education in India presents a dismal picture.

UGC and other professional bodies should make an effort to offer a bright future for PR professions,” he said. The PRSI gave  away wards for educators for their contribution and for students for scoring highest marks in the subject.

Dr.P.Venugopal Reddy, the newly elected chairman of PRSI Hyderabad chapter, said that a delegation headed by Dr CV Narasimha Reddi would coordinate with Prof.Papi Reddy to deal with UGC as early as possible.  The PRSI secretary Mr.P.Mohan
