SCR ranked 2nd among all zones of Indian Railways

Hyderabad: All India Third Party Survey Report on Railway Station Cleanliness of Quality Council of India Released

South Central Railway Ranked at Second Position amongst all Zones on Indian Railways

Tirupati & Warangal ranked at No.3 position in A1 & A category respectively, Vijayawada, Secunderabad, Hyderabad & Kacheguda also feature amongst top 15 in A1 Category on Indian Railways

Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Coal, Finance & Corporate Affairs, released the All India third party survey report on Railway Station Cleanliness conducted by Quality Council of India today i.e., 13th August, 2018 at New Delhi.

South Central Railway registered a significant improvement in the overall ranking amongst all Zones on Indian Railways, moving to the 2nd position from its previous year’s 4th position ranking. The performance of the Zone comes on account of the excellent ranks attained by its Railway stations in both A1 & A category.

This is the third such audit cum survey which has been conducted by Railways to increase level of cleanliness by identifying unclean spots/gaps and to improve cleanliness standards and also to propel healthy competition among railway stations.

In A1 category, Tirupati Railway station has achieved the 3rd rank amongst the top 10 on Indian Railways, while Vijayawada is at 4th, Secunderabad is at 6th and Hyderabad stands at 8th position, thereby enabling SCR garner 4 ranks, amongst the top 10 stations on Indian Railways. While Kacheguda Railway station was placed at the 14th rank.

In A category, SCR yet again proved to be a front runner by earning 3 positions amongst the top 10 on Indian Railways. Warangal is ranked at no.3 position, while Nizamabad is placed at 6th and Manchiriyal at 8th position.

Further, Renigunta stands at 12th rank, Kazipet at 14th rank, Kadapa at 15th rank, Nellore at 16th rank, Khammam at 18th rank, Gudur at 24th rank and Kurnool City at 25th rank, signifying SCR’s sizeable presence, with 10 ranks amongst the top 25 in A category.

Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway expressed his happiness at the significant achievement registered by South Central Railway at the All India level, which conveys the priority being accorded by the Zone towards providing a clean ambience at its railway stations, so as to optimize the comfort and convenience of rail users.

Piyush Goyal, in his address after releasing the survey report, said that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is the greatest tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He added that during the last 4 years, the sanitation coverage in the country which was 38% in 2014 has gone upto 83% in the 2018.

Nearly, 7 crore toilets have been constructed in the last 4 years, which is a major accomplishment. The Minister further added that Railways has been prioritizing cleanliness, punctuality and catering services for the passengers.

In last 4 years, Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat Campaign has witnessed tremendous improvement in terms of cleanliness in waiting area, platforms, trains, toilets, parking at the stations.

The Minister went on to state that the cleanliness rankings of the stations will not only be a reward for the stations that have performed well but will also be an impetus for further improvement for the ones that didn’t make it to the top rankings. He added that this year the cleanliness rankings conducted by Quality Council of India.

The parameters adopted for conducting the survey were – Evaluation of Process of cleanliness in Parking, main entry area, main platform, waiting room, (33.33%) direct observation by QCI assessors of cleanliness in these areas (33.33%) and passenger feedback (33.33%).

A 24×7 control room was set up and images were geo-tagged to monitor progress.
