UGC approves 4 new distance programmes for MANUU

Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) has been given approval by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to start three new Post Graduate programmes in Arabic, Islamic Studies and Hindi besides Undergraduate programme in commerce (B.Com).

According to a communication issued by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC, the Commission has also extended recognition to the six programmes already being offered by the Directorate for two more years. These are B.A., BSc (BZC, MPC), MA (Urdu, English, History).

The Commission in it’s 534 th meeting held recently considered the recommendations of the Interface Committees and approved the ODL programmes for 2018-19 onwards.

In addition to the above mentioned 10 programmes, DDE, MANUU will also offer diplomas in ‘Journalism & Mass Communication’ and ‘Teach English’; and certificate programmes in ‘Proficiency in Urdu through English’ and ‘Functional English’.

Diploma and certificate programmes through distance mode do not require prior UGC approval according to new DEB, UGC regulations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU has expressed satisfaction on receiving of the approval from UGC not only to continue the courses offered earlier but also to start four new programmes.

He congratulated the DDE team for obtaining clearance from UGC in the very first round itself and called it a good sign particularly for higher education through Urdu medium.

The UGC had directed the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to strictly adhere to the provisions of UGC (Open and Distance learning) Regulations, 2017 and its amendments while applying for recognition of their distance mode programmes.

MANUU followed these provisions strictly and received the clearance in the very first stage.
