Hyderabad: UNICEF India and MANUU today announced the introduction of Critical Appraisal Skills, a health reporting course, for students pursuing journalism at the University.
The course is designed by UNICEF in collaboration with Thomson Reuters Foundation, Oxford University, UK, and Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi.
UNICEF in Collaboration with Dept of Mass Communication MANUU to introduce Health Journalism Course in Urdu conducted Two Day workshop on “Critical Appraisal Skills( CAS) on Public Health Journalism for Urdu Media” which concluded today.
Speaking on the occassion, Ms Meital Rusdia, Chief of UNICEF Hyderabad office, said, ” Media is the key partner in sustaining the rights of children worldwide.
This programme will be a great opportunity for the students of Media in the reputed university like MANUU and will add the critical dimensions of fact based reporting on health issues with special focus on the importance of immunization to save the millions of childrens”.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU said that the role of parents,teachers and media is vital and critical in shaping society. He further said that course will enable better health related reporting by future journalists which will be helpful for National Development.
He thanked UNICEF for providing a great opportunity to students to pursue this important programme. Mr Pankaj Pachauri, Founder and Editor- in- Chief, Go News, New Delhi who is core group trainer of the course said, MANUU and UNICEF should be congratulated for introducing this CAS program for students of Mass Communication.
This will initiate a new generation of media persons who will be sensitive towards health reporting. Ms. Sonia Sarkar, Communication Officer- Media, UNICEF said that Media is an important and effective tool in mobilizing Health issues.
UNICEF will collaborate with MANUU for further projects in awareness on different issues. Prof Ehtesham Ahmad Khan Head & Dean, Dept of Mass communication proposed vote of thanks and introduced the blue print of Health journalism course being started from 2018-2019 in MA and BA journalism A Book titled ”
Sehat, Safaayi and Maholiyaat” written by a key member of the CAS programme, Dr Muzafar Husain Gazali was also launched on the occasion. Participants were provided with necessary course material and Certificate also.
