Uttam asks KCR to release Rythu Bandhu dues, waive off crop loans

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the TRS Government immediately release promised Investment Support to farmers under Rythu Bandhu scheme and immediate waive off crop loans.

Uttam Kumar Reddy was addressing a massive dharna at Huzurnagar Tahsildar office as part of Congress party’s state wide agitation on farmers’ issues on Wednesday.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had promised to pay Rs. 5,000 per acre for two seasons of Rabi and Khariff to farmers across Telangana State. However, he said that more than 50% farmers were yet to get the amount even as the crop season has reached its peak.

He also condemned the TRS Government for not initiating the process to waive off crop loans up to Rs. 1 lakh for each farmer. He said that the banks were not giving loans to farmers due to over dues and non-clearance of previous crop loans and they also did not get the promised support from State Government under Rythu Bandhu scheme.

He accused the TRS Government of pushing lakhs of farmers under bad debts and severe financial strain. He demanded that all dues under Rythu Bandhu scheme be cleared immediately besides waiving off crop loans.

The TPCC Chief also condemned the State and Central Government for the ongoing shortage of Urea in Telangana State. He said instead of ensuring supply of Urea in adequate quantities, both TRS Government in Telangana and BJP Government at the Centre were making contradictory and false statements on the availability of Urea.

He said the requirement of farmers could be met only by supplying Urea and not by entering into blame game or issuing statements. He said that the State Government did not react even after the death of one farmer who stood in a long queue to get Urea.

Uttam Kumar Reddy accused KCR of doing injustice with all sections of the society. He alleged that KCR had no sense of maintaining regional and social balance. He strongly condemned KCR for neglecting the Madiga community by not giving it any representation in the State Cabinet.

He said Madigas have a population of over 40 lakh in the State. However, KCR decided to ignore the community while accommodating two other members of his family in the cabinet. He demanded that KCR given an explanation on the issue.

The TPCC Chief alleged that CM KCR neither fulfilled the promises he made with the people in his last term, nor did anything concrete to honour the assurances he gave in the present term. Citing an example, he said KCR had promised to give 12% reservation to Muslims within four months after coming to power. However, this promise has remained unimplemented even after six years.

Similarly, KCR cheated Scheduled Tribes on the promise of 12% reservation. He said neighbouring Maharashtra has successfully implemented 12% reservation for Marathas although they exceeded the 50% ceiling.

Uttam Kumar Reddy reminded that the Chief Minister made statements in the Assembly and Council claiming that Prime Minister Narender Modi had agreed to enhance the quota for Muslims and STs. He said KCR did not even respect the resolutions passed in the Assembly and Council seeking enhanced reservation. He said KCR wants to continue in power by misleading all communities.

The TPCC Chief claimed that the Congress party would retain the Huzurnagar Assembly seat in the by-elections to be held in near future. He said had represented the Kodad and Huzurnagar seats for five terms and brought immense development. He said he had to resign from the Huzurnagar seat following his election as Nalgonda MP. He said TRS Government did not bring any development in Huzurnagar Assembly segment during the last six years.

Except for making leaders of opposition parties join TRS, the ruling party did nothing for the welfare of people. He reminded that it was due to his efforts that Huzurnagar got a 100-bed hospital, a degree college, MRO office and CC roads among several other developments.

Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the TRS leaders were indulging in land mafia, sand mafia and other illegal means to loot public wealth and resources. TRS leaders are only interested in minting money without bothering about people’s welfare. He also alleged that the TRS leaders were harassing the Congress cadre by misusing police. He said many Congress workers were being implicated in false cases.

He warned both TRS leaders and corrupt police officers of serious consequences if they continue to harass the Congress workers and leaders.

He said power never remains permanently with any single party. Stating that he would be active in politics for another 15-20 years, he warned that those harassing the Congress workers today due to arrogance of power would face serious consequences in future.

Thousands of Congress workers from Huzurnagar constituency participated in the dharna. Similar protest was organised in all Assembly constituencies across the State today. (INN)
