By-elections for Huzurmagar seat on Oct 21

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced the schedule for the lone vacant seat of Huzurnagar Assembly constituency.

As per the schedule, the elections for the Huzurnagar constituency will be held on October 21, and the results will be declared on October 24.

The notification for the by-poll will be issued on September 23 and the filing of nomination will commence on September 30 and the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 1st. The last date for withdrawal is October 3.

The Huzurnagar seat fell vacant after the then sitting MLA and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Uttam Kumar Reddy got elected as the Member of Parliament from Nalgonda in 2019 General Elections.

The main contest in Huzurnagar is between Congress and TRS. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who had won the seat thrice in 2009, 2014 and 2018, is confident of retaining it and backing the candidature of his wife and ex-MLA Padmavathi Reddy.

On the other side, TRS has announced the candidature of Sanampudi Saidi Reddy who had lost to Uttam Kumar Reddy in last election with a margin of over 7,000 votes. (INN)
