Campaign for Huzurnagar bye-elections ends

Hyderabad: The campaign for Huzurnagar bye-elections came to an end at 5 pm on Saturday.

Polling for Huzurnagar seat will be held on October 21 and results will be declared on October 24. As many as 28 candidates are in fray which includes Independents. The main contest is between Congress and TRS.

Huzurnagar seat fell vacant due to resignation by TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy following his election as Nalgonda MP. While Congress party campaigned hard to retain the seat, TRS wants to snatch the Congress bastion at any cost. Congress party has fielded Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife Padmavathi Reddy while the TRS nominated Saidi Reddy.

Minister K. Tarakarama Rao conducted two road shows in the constituency while most of the ministers and other senior leaders campaigned for the party candidate. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had also planned to address a public meeting on October 17. However, the meeting was cancelled following heavy rains on that day.

There are nearly 2.36 lakh voters in the constituency including 1.20 lakh women voters.

BJP, Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Inti Party are also in the fray. (INN)
