Hyderabad: South Central Railway conducted a meeting with representatives of major Cement Manufacturers to further improve freight loading on Friday at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.
N. Madhusudana Rao, Additional Member (Traffic), Railway Board, New Delhi, John Prasad, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, SCR along with other officials participated in the meeting. Cement industry is second largest freight contributor for South Central Railway.
SCR loaded 13.76 MTs of Cement during the current financial year upto October, 2019, which is highest amongst all Zonal Railways.
The Zone has recorded very good performance showing continuous improvement with the share of 22.6 % on the total Cement loading of Indian Railways. Representatives from major cement industries like Ultratech, India Cements, Kesoram and Vasavadatta Cements, ACC, Orient Cements, Bharati Cements attended the meeting assured that cement loading will increase in the coming months.
Railways offered various solutions like containerization to make it attractive for cement customers to transport cement by rail which is very environment friendly and safe.
However, Railways wanted cement companies to improve their loading and unloading faster because there is also heavy demand for rakes for fertilizer movement and food grain movement especially for upcoming sowing and procuring season from agriculture sector.
Various options for movement of fly ash from power plants to cement plants was also explored in the meeting.
Chief Freight Transportation Manager Nagya and other senior Railway officials also participated in the meeting. (INN)
