13,600 government schools students learn computer skills in Narayanpet

Hyderabad: Software professionals body Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) held its Digithon, a digital literacy drive that aims at giving students basic exposure to computer skills. In all, 127 schools were covered in the two-day event and about 13,600 students have been given digital skills.

IT principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan flagged off the event at BRK Bhavan while Narayanpet District Collector Hari Chandana inaugurated the event and also supervised the training programme.

The training went on for 16-hours. The Collector lauded the efforts of TITA in conducting the digital awareness for the students. About 130 techies, four medicos and system repair crew from Hyderabad have travelled to Narayanpet. They have stayed at the government residential hostel during the training module.

The training covered basics of computers, Internet awareness, email creation, digital transactions, Google maps, search engine and others. The visiting members also held discussions on varied topics, importance of creativity and enterpreneurship.

The members also conducted a Hackathon where 100 students have participated. They were asked to work and focus on evolving solutions for local problems.

District Collector Hari Chandana supervised the training at KGBV. She also kept a tab on the module happening at other locations through the Digithon Trava app.

The Collector, who was earlier in Hyderabad West Zone, had earlier worked with TITA on various modules. She expressed happiness on the programme outcomes and asked TITA to scale up the module to other districts. So far, four districts have been covered.

Speaking on the occasion, TITA founder and global president Sundeep Kumar Makthala, said the District Collector has extended cooperation for the conduct of Digithon. He said efforts will be made to extend the Digithon to other districts. He later presented certificates to the students.
