TS Council approves agricultural markets amendment Bill

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Legislative Council on Tuesday approved the Telangana (Agricultural Produce and Livestock) Markets Amendment Bill, 2022 which provides for the extension of the term of agricultural market committees from one year to two years, increase in the number of committee members from 14 to 18 and the number of farmers on the committee from 8 to 12.

Speaking on the issue, Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said that the importance of agriculture in the State has increased due to the pro-agriculture policies of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. He thanked the members and the House in the wake of the unanimous approval of the Bill.

MLCs Kalvakuntla Kavitha, Venkatram Reddy and Gangadhar Goud participated in the discussion on the Bill.Kavitha said that Telangana was the only state in the State which provided reservations to SCs, STs and weaker sections in the Market Committees and 33% of women from all walks of life in Telangana were elected as chairmen of the market committees. MLCs Gangadhar Goud and Venkatram Reddy said that the extension of the tenure of market committees from one year to two years would give the committee a better understanding of market management. (INN)
