Maulana Abul Kalam Azad has significantly contributed for higher education in India, said TS deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali. He said Azad’s birth anniversary must be celebrated as ‘Education Day’ rather than Minorities Day.
Speaking at Ravindra Bharati during a seminar commemorating Azad’s 127th birth anniversary, Mr. Ali said that Telangana government is likely to celebrate the Education Day celebrations from next year to pay tribute to India’s first education minister.
Mr. Ali noted that Maulana Azad had become first education minister because of his education and expertise. He added that both Maulana Azad and APJ Abdul Kalam have shown the country a light of education for generations.
In addition, Mr. Ali listed out the good work done by his government for the minority communities and praised TS chief minister KCR for being secular in nature and working for minorities’ empowerment.
Another guest at the seminar, Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy lauded the event that unites leaders from all faiths and social backgrounds. He noted that we live together and respect each other as it inherently exists in us.
Mr. Reddy also added that the recent Bihar assembly elections were a sign of times where people of the country have shown they believe in co-existance.
Minorities Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan said that Maulana Azad had strived to make the country a secular, democratic and strong country and called upon the leaders to work for the integrity.
The seminar was organized by the Minorities Commission with the aim to promote and propagate brother-hood, secularism and tolerance among different communities.
