Chief Secretary discusses action plan on promotion of single pick Cotton

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar held a meeting to discuss the proposed action plan on the promotion of single pick Cotton at BRKR Bhavan today. 

The Chief Secretary stated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed to promote single pick cotton to improve productivity and also to generate income for the farmers of the state.  The single pick cotton provides a 40 percent higher yield and many foreign countries also use this kind of cotton.

Somesh Kumar instructed the officials to take up single pick cotton in 45 thousand acres across the state as sufficient seed is available.  He said that the area expansion model should be followed in those areas where trials were conducted earlier by the seed companies and practiced by the farmers.  In the second model promotion of single pick cotton should be taken up in demonstration mode in all the identified districts, mandals and villages across the state. 

The Chief Secretary directed the officials to immediately convene a meeting of seed companies to promote HDPS technology.  AEOs meeting should be conducted and enrolment of farmers should be done.  An app should be brought up which should include a profile of the farmer, details of rainfall, crop calendar, etc.

M Raghunandan Rao, Secretary Agriculture, Praveen Rao, VC PJTSAU, Hanuman K Zendage, Special Commissioner Agriculture, Venkatram Reddy, Horticulture Commissioner and other officials attended the meeting. (INN)
