OU Vice-Chancellor asks faculty to focus on obtaining patents

Hyderabad: Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dandeboyna Ravinder called upon the faculty to focus on obtaining patents.

“Even if each of the professors obtains a patent the University would have at least 500 patents of its own. Collaborative research involving the students and researchers across domains is the need of the hour and this will increase the presence of the University in the domain of multidisciplinary research for which the basic facilities are available in the University and further facilities would be established. Further, the Vice-Chancellor appealed to the faculty members to do collaborative research with eminent researchers available locally in national institutes including the University of Hyderabad, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, National Institute for Nutrition, and Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. He expressed his views along with the faculty of the University while sharing his learning and experiences gained during his recent month-long visit to the US covering 10 cities,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

He said that the global alumni, especially those settled in North America, are more than willing to help Osmania University, their alma mater, to achieve global standards in more than one way.

While interacting with the faculty, the Vice-Chancellor appealed to them to work together to build the image of the University as the global alumni too are putting their efforts in this direction. He reiterated that there is no dearth in research funding and encouraged more and more faculty to acquire the same enabling greater participation of scholars and students in research activities. He also encouraged the faculty on a contract basis to explore the possibilities for writing joint research projects along with the regular faculty to prove their mettle.The Vice-Chancellor has addressed more than 400 teachers today at Tagore Auditorium in which the Registrar Prof. P. Lakshminarayana, OSD to VC Prof. Redyanaik, Deans of the faculties, Principals of the colleges, Directors, Heads of the departments, and other teaching staff members participated. (INN)
