TSRTC orders 550 electric buses from Olectra

Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is taking a big step towards reducing its carbon footprint by ordering 550 electric buses from Olectra Greentech Limited. The subsidiary of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) will supply TSRTC with 500 intra-city and 50 intercity buses, making this the largest electric bus order in South India.

According to K. V. Pradeep, Chairman and Managing Director of Olectra Greentech Limited, the intercity coach electric buses will be air-conditioned and ply between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. These buses can travel more than 325 km on a single charge, making them an efficient and eco-friendly mode of transportation. In addition, the intracity electric buses will ply within Hyderabad city limits and can travel more than 225 km on a single charge. These buses not only help the environment but also provide convenient transportation to people.

TSRTC Chairman and MLA Bajireddy Govarthan emphasized the importance of environmental protection, stating that the organization plans to make 3,400 electric buses available across the state within the next two years. TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar added that the organization hopes to make electric buses available across Hyderabad by March 2025, with 550 e-buses being procured in the first phase. These buses will be made available in phases, he informed.This move by TSRTC is a significant step towards sustainable transportation, and it sets an example for other transport corporations to follow.
