TS Govt to acquire 100 acres for Film Institute

Hyderabad: Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that the Telangana Government would acquire about 50-100 acres of land to establish a Film Institute.

The minister held a review meeting with Chief Secretary Dr. Rajiv Sharma, Telangana State Film Development Corporation (TSFDC) Managing Director Naveen Mittal, Ranga Reddy Joint Collector Rajat Kumar and other officials at the State Secretariat on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons later, Talasani said that the Film Institute and Convention Centre would be established on BOT (Built-Operate-Transfer) basis.

He said the acquisition of land for proposed Film Institute would begin soon. He said that institute would train artists from within and outside the country.

He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was quite serious about development of film industry in the State.

The minister said that the government was taking measures to encourage low-budget films. He said that the government has also decided to permit five shows in cinema halls. He said guidelines on the 5th show would be issued by this month end.

Talasani said it has been decided to construct mini-theatres, with 200 seat capacity, in commercial and populated areas.

He said the process for seeking shooting permits was being simplified under single-window system which would enable the producers to get permission within seven days. If the producers failed to get any response, then they would be able to begin shooting on the 8th day.

The minister also informed that houses would be constructed for 4,300 people associated with the film industry by acquiring another 10 acres of land. (INN)
