Minister KTR inaugurates Warner Bros Discovery’s Hyderabad Capability Centre

Hyderabad: “Warner Bros. Discovery is the world’s leading media and entertainment company with many iconic brands across television, films, and streaming,” said IT and Industries Minister K Tarakarama Rao, at the inaugural function of ‘Hyderabad Capability Center’ of Warner Bros. Discovery.

“I am proud to note that Warner Bros. Discovery with such marquee presence and brands in the media space has chosen Hyderabad for setting up its development centre,” said Minister KTR.

Minister KTR also said that the ‘Hyderabad Capability Center’ has taken very good shape within four months of its announcement. “As part of our delegation to the USA, we met with Alex Carter in New York earlier during May of this year, and were glad to announce the entry of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Global Capability Center in Hyderabad,” the Minister said.

Minister KTR stated that it was a privilege to note that the Hyderabad office for Warner Bros. Discovery is its first Greenfield office in Asia after the merger of Warner Media and Discovery. He thanked the Warner Bros. Discovery team for choosing Hyderabad and said this was a decision that they would not regret.

He also said that Warner Bros. Discovery brings diversity and adds to the wide range of companies that are present in Hyderabad.

Minister KTR mentioned that when Telangana was formed, its IT employment was over 3,23,000 and today the number has almost risen to a million, despite of Covid situation. He also added that Telangana’s employment and exports have tripled and quadrupled since the formation of the state.

On this occasion, the Minister highlighted that Hyderabad city has contributed to 33% of the net new IT jobs in FY 2022 and 44% of the net new jobs in FY 2023 which is unprecedented. “In the first half of 2023, Hyderabad has overtaken Bengaluru as the top destination for the Global capability centres,” said KTR.

The Minister mentioned the iconic brands, and channels available in 220 countries and 50 languages which include – Discovery Channel, Max, discovery+, CNN, DC, Eurosport, HBO, HGTV, Food Network, OWN, Investigation Discovery, TLC, Magnolia Network, TNT, TBS, truTV, Travel Channel, MotorTrend, Animal Planet, Science Channel, Warner Bros. Film Group, Warner Bros. Television Group, Warner Bros. Games, New Line Cinema, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies, Discovery en Español, Hogar de HGTV and others.

Talking about the several marquee companies set up in Hyderabad, he said Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Salesforce, Uber, Novartis, Qualcomm, Wells Fargo, Micron, etc. have set up their second-largest campuses in the world outside of their headquarters in Hyderabad.  

Gunnar Wiedenfels, CFO, Warner Bros. Discovery, Alexandra Carter, Senior Vice President (Finance) Warner Bros. Discovery, Jaideep Agarwal, Leader, Hyderabad Capability Centre, Warner Bros. Discovery was present at the inauguration. Jennifer Larson, U.S Consul General in Hyderabad, Dr Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Special Secretary, Investment Promotions, and Amarnath Reddy, Chief Relations Officer, ITE&C Department, Government of Telangana also attended the inauguration ceremony. (INN)
