Conference on Deccan Maritime Outlook held at MANUU

Hyderabad: The  HK Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies (HKS-CDS), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) yesterday organised one day Conference “The Deccan: Maritime Outlook and Opportunities” in collaboration with Society for Indian Ocean Studies (SIOS), New Delhi.

The inaugural session was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Syed Ainul Hasan. Ambassador Sudhir Devare, Chairperson SIOS, Admiral Arun Prakash, Former Naval Chief and Chief of Defence Staff, Prof. P.V. Rao, Former Director, Indian Ocean Centre, Osmania University, Prof. Krishnendra Meena, Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Sciences, JNU and Secretary General SIOS, and Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan, former Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, GoI were the eminent speakers.

The conference encompassed a host of issues ranging from defence strategy, trade routes and communications, technology of fishing and shipping, marine spatial planning, maritime connections, and present state of ports, shipping and shipbuilding in India. An important lecture was given on geopolitical significance of India Middle-East Europe economic corridor. The conference unlocked the immense potential in maritime research, education, and skill development by establishing collaborations between academia and industry.

The eminent people from city and teachers, research scholars, students from different universities attended the conference.
