Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy emphasised that India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru prioritised education and sanitation.
Speaking during the Assembly discussion on the Skill University Bill, he noted that Pandit Nehru established universities in remote areas and introduced reservations to ensure education for the poor. Nehru’s initiatives, such as residential schools, made education accessible to the underprivileged and laid the foundation for development through job and employment opportunities.
“Indira Gandhi provided scholarships to SCs and STs and established public sector enterprises, creating job opportunities in sectors like railways, LIC, defense, and aviation. Rajiv Gandhi introduced computers to the nation. During Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, the foundation for Hi-Tech City was laid, and Congress’s efforts led to the growth of the IT sector in Hyderabad. Among the world’s IT professionals, five are Indian, and one of them is likely to be a Telugu person,” said CM Revanth Reddy.
He announced that the Skill University would offer 17 courses, starting with six this year, to avoid wasting valuable time for students. The university aims to enrol 2,000 students initially, enhancing their skills to compete globally.
The six courses to be launched this year are: School of Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences; School of E-commerce and Logistics; School of Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance; School of Construction and Interiors; School of Retail Operations and Management and the School of Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics.
CM Revanth Reddy called on the youth to enhance their skills and compete on a global scale, emphasising the importance of the new courses in achieving this goal. (INN)
