Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall in the Krishna River catchment area has led to a surge in inflows into the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, bringing it close to its full reservoir level.
As of today, the dam is holding 312 TMC of water, just shy of its full capacity of 312.50 TMC. The current water level stands at 590 feet, with inflows and outflows both at 79,528 cusecs.
Over the past few days, the dam authorities have been gradually increasing the number of gates lifted to manage the rising water levels. Initially, 24 gates were opened, followed by 18. On Wednesday, two more gates were lifted, and with the latest surge, four more gates have been opened, bringing the total to six.The increased outflow from the dam has turned the Krishna River into a visual spectacle, attracting a large number of tourists to witness the cascading waters. With consecutive holidays approaching, the dam authorities are expecting a further increase in tourist footfall. (INN)
