TGRTC sets new record on Rakhi festival, transports 63 lakh passengers safely

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) achieved a new milestone during the Raksha Bandhan festival by safely transporting 63 lakh passengers in a single day. TGRTC Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar announced that of these passengers, 41.74 lakh women availed themselves of the free bus services offered by the corporation on the festive day.

Praising the dedication and discipline of TGRTC staff and officials, Sajjanar noted that despite heavy rainfall, the team worked with commitment to ensure smooth operations. He particularly commended the staff for covering a record 38 lakh kilometres on Raksha Bandhan, exceeding the average daily coverage of 33 lakh kilometres by an additional 5 lakh kilometres.

Breaking down the figures, Sajjanar revealed that the Hyderabad region led the passenger count with 12.91 lakh travellers, followed by Secunderabad with 11.68 lahks, Karimnagar with 6.37 lakh, Mahabubnagar with 5.84 lahks, and Warangal with 5.82 lakh passengers. Impressively, 92 out of 97 depots recorded an occupancy ratio (OR) of over 100%, highlighting the significant demand for TGRTC services on this occasion.

Financially, TGRTC recorded an all-time high revenue of Rs 32 crore in a single day, with Rs 17 crore generated through the Mahalakshmi scheme and Rs 15 crore from cash ticket sales. Sajjanar remarked that this achievement would be remembered as a milestone in India’s public transport system.

To manage the festival rush and implement the Mahalakshmi scheme effectively, TGRTC took proactive measures, including three virtual meetings with field staff over the past two weeks to ensure seamless operations. The corporation also operated 2,587 special buses over three days to accommodate the increased passenger load.Sajjanar concluded by expressing gratitude to passengers for their continued support and trust in TGRTC, acknowledging that the success of the Rakhi festival operations was due to the careful planning and unwavering dedication of the TGRTC staff. He also noted that the depot managers were crucial in motivating their teams to provide excellent service, ensuring that travellers reached their destinations safely and comfortably. (INN)
