Hyderabad: In a major relief to farmers, the Telangana government has released Rs 2,747.67 crore to address pending farm loan waivers for those left out due to technical and administrative issues. This decision will benefit 3.14 lakh farmers who had not received the promised loan waivers earlier.
The government announced that it had resolved the technical glitches in the loan waiver process and ensured the funds were credited to eligible farmers’ accounts. This is part of the Congress government’s Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver promise, a key campaign commitment during the recent Assembly elections.
After winning the Assembly elections with a decisive mandate, the Congress party implemented the farm loan waiver scheme in two phases. However, some eligible farmers did not receive the benefits. To address this, the government recently approved and released funds to cover the remaining beneficiaries. The Congress government reiterated that the loan waiver is part of its broader strategy to support farmers and improve their livelihoods. (INN)
