Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has reiterated his government’s commitment to reducing pollution in Hyderabad and transforming it into a global city.
Speaking at the ‘Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu’ event organised by the state Transport Department on Thursday, the CM outlined bold measures to tackle air pollution and promote eco-friendly initiatives.
“The Transport Department plays a crucial role in curbing pollution. It is your responsibility to scrap old vehicles and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles,” he said. The government plans to purchase 3,000 electric buses in the next two years and offer incentives for running electric auto-rickshaws in Hyderabad. “We are committed to making the city pollution-free by taking tough decisions if necessary,” he added.
The CM announced the Musi Rejuvenation Project, which aims to connect the Godavari and Musi rivers, ensuring cleaner water and improving the city’s air quality. He urged the Transport Department to create awareness about electric vehicles and actively participate in reducing pollution levels.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted other government achievements during its first year in office, including the free RTC bus travel scheme for women, which benefitted 115 crore women and revitalised the TSRTC. The CM underscored the importance of welfare measures like free power up to 200 units, affordable cooking gas cylinders, and farm loan waivers totalling Rs 21,000 crore.
The CM called on farmers to cultivate fine variety paddy, promising a Rs 500 bonus per quintal and pledging to supply fine rice in government hostels, ration shops, and mid-day meals. “We will root out the rice recycling mafia and ensure Telangana-grown rice reaches our people,” he declared.
Revanth Reddy emphasised the government’s focus on employment, stating that 55,143 jobs were filled in just one year. “This is a tribute to the martyrs of Telangana who fought for the state’s future,” he said. The CM concluded by urging collective action to achieve sustainable development, adding that his government is committed to making Hyderabad a model global city. (INN)
