Hyderabad: Unilever, one of the world’s leading FMCG companies, has announced plans to establish two manufacturing units in Telangana following discussions with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The meeting, attended by Telangana’s IT & Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu and other key officials, highlighted the state’s strategic advantages. CM Reddy emphasised Telangana’s locational benefits as a central hub for supply chain and logistics, connecting southern, eastern, western, and central India. He also presented the state’s consumption-driven market, ease of doing business, and progressive industrial policies under the vision of “TelanganaRising.”
Unilever CEO Hein Schumacher and Chief Supply Chain Officer Willem Uijen responded positively to the proposals. They announced plans to set up a palm oil refining and manufacturing unit in the Kamareddy district alongside a unit for producing bottle caps, which are critical for Unilever’s liquid product packaging.
This move marks a significant development, as Unilever’s presence in Telangana has been minimal until now. The new facilities will enhance local manufacturing, reduce reliance on imports, and align with Telangana’s industrial growth strategy.
CM Revanth Reddy assured Unilever of the state’s full support in facilitating their operations. He reiterated the importance of sustainable and equitable growth, stating, “We must grow together without losing sight of larger sustainability and fairness goals for people and the planet.” The Telangana delegation at the meeting included Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary (IT & IC), V. Seshadri, Principal Secretary (CMO), E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Special Secretary (Investment Promotion), and B. Ajith Reddy, Special Secretary to the CM, among others. (INN)
