Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has called for collective efforts to position Hyderabad among the most developed cities in the world.
Speaking at a session hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Hero MotoCorp during the World Economic Forum in Davos, the CM highlighted the state’s commitment to sustainable and advanced urban development.
The Chief Minister emphasized Hyderabad’s rapid growth and ongoing transformation into a modern, eco-friendly city. He shared the government’s vision to provide essential infrastructure for affordable and efficient urban travel. A significant initiative in this regard includes the development of a new “Future City” and plans to make Hyderabad a “Net-Zero City,” ensuring superior transport facilities.
Revanth Reddy underscored the government’s focus on electric vehicles (EVs). To encourage EV adoption, the state has waived road tax and registration charges for such vehicles. He claimed that Telangana currently leads India in EV sales. Additionally, Hyderabad’s public transport system is set for an overhaul, with plans to replace 3,000 old diesel buses with electric ones to enhance environmental protection.
He further elaborated on the state’s focus on promoting sectors like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, EV manufacturing, and infrastructure. A dry port is under construction in Telangana to serve as a major warehousing hub. Given the state’s lack of a coastal border, a special road and rail corridor will connect this port to the Machilipatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing urban transport, Revanth Reddy stressed that efficient, low-cost commuting is critical to any city’s progress. To this end, the government has decided to add over 100 kilometres of new metro lines in Hyderabad, effectively doubling the current network. A 160-kilometer Outer Ring Road already serves the city, and a 360-kilometer Regional Ring Road is under development to connect various towns. Plans for a regional railway line to complement these roads are also under consideration.
The Chief Minister invited investors at the World Economic Forum to participate in Telangana’s urban transport projects. He thanked the event organizers for facilitating discussions on infrastructure development and sustainable urban growth. (INN)
