Spirit of National Movement: A Seminar at BRAOU

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences organized One day National Symposium on “Spirit of National Movement – Legacy and Relevance” at its campus as part of Yaad Karo Qurbani Azaadi-70 on August 22, 2016.

Prof. Gopinath Ravindran, Former Member Secretary, ICHR & Professor, Department of History, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi as the Guest of Honor of the Symposium he stressed on the need for understanding the true ‘spirit’ of freedom and tried to redefine the legacy in terms of ‘Plurality’ of India and “Inclusiveness”.

Thereafter Prof. C. Venkataiah, Registrar, Dr. BRAOU delivered a speech “Underling the Importance of Symposium which was in-line with the MHRD-directive of Yaad Karo Qurbani programme National wide.

Later Prof. K. Seetharama Rao,Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU as the Chief Guest of Symposium. In his speech thank and appreciated the age veteran freedom fighters who were felicities Dr. Chukka Ramaiah & Sri Burugula Narsinga Rao for gracing the occasion, with their presence.

He highlighted the values of ‘Unity in Diversity’ and National Integration and ended his speech with a quote of Dr. Abdul Kalam.

It was followed by keynote address by Prof. Mridula Mukherjee, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New-Delhi wherein she appreciated the BRAOU for honoring the veteran freedom fighters, which is really befitting for the occasion.

She said, the freedom movement was basically a “Peoples Struggle” elated the gap between the leaders and people was narrow, there was always a dialogue between them and she emphasized this legacy has to be remembered while narrating Gandhi’s “Noakhala” experiment, she focused on the “All India character” and “Assertiveness ” of regional linguistic groups during the freedom movement.

Prof. S. V. Rajashekar Reddy, Director, Academic, Dr. BRAOU will preside over the Symposium. Dr. Srinivas Vaddanam, Head of the Dept. of History and Co-director welcomed the gathering. Prof. E. Sudha Rani, Director, Symposium brief the gathering about the theme and significance of the Symposium.
