Hyderabad: The Congress party on Wednesday demanded that the State Government immediately constitute Backward Classes Commission to provide promised 12% quota to Muslims in education and jobs.
In a media statement, Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail condemned the statement issued by BC Welfare Minister Jogu Ramanna wherein the minister confessed of delay in giving 12% Muslim quota to lack of recommendations of a BC Commission.
He said that the Congress party has been saying this from beginning that the Muslim quota could not be increased from present 4% to 12% without the recommendation of BC Commission.
However, the TRS Government has deliberately caused delay by constituting Sudhir Commission of Enquiry to study the socio-economic conditions of Muslims in the State.
He said that Sudhir Commission had no legal sanctity and its reports and recommendations would be only of academic interest.
Abdullah Sohail said that the TRS Government wasted about 25 months in the name of Sudhir Commission. “An impression was given that the TRS Government would implement 12% Muslim reservation immediately after receiving the Sudhir Commission report.
However, the government did even make Sudhir Commission report public. Instead of fulfilling the promise, TRS Government has now come up with an excuse that it needs BC Commission recommendations to provide 12% Muslim quota.
This is nothing but open cheating,” he said.
The Congress leader said it is not mandatory for the BC Commission to accept the study conducted by the Sudhir Commission.
“The BC Commission might order a fresh study with specific Terms of Reference to decide on increase in quota for Muslims. Therefore, the time and resources invested on Sudhir Commission would go waste.
TRS Government deliberately created these deviations to delay the 12% Muslim reservation,” he alleged.
Abdullah Sohail demanded that the State Government immediately constitute a BC Commission without wasting any time. He also demanded that the report of Sudhir Commission be made public.
He warned that the Congress party would launch a massive protest if the TRS Government fails to provide 12% reservation to Muslim community.
He reminded that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had promised to give 12% Muslim quota within four months after coming to power.
However, he said despite completion of over 26 months, 12% Muslim reservation remained a mirage for the community. (INN)
