Jamaat-e-Islami demands inclusion of Urdu in NEET

Hyderabad: Jamaat-e-Islami-e-Hind on Tuesday demanded that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 be conducted in Urdu language.

Addressing a press conference here, Jamaat’s Telangana and Andhra Pradesh president Hamid Mohammed Khan said that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) first declared that the NEET would be conducted in eight languages – English, Hindi, Assami, Bengali, Gujarathi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu.

After immense pressure from the students and the government for including other scheduled languages, the CBSE board has included Kannada and Oria. However, he said the demand for inclusion of Urdu language was ignored.

Stating that Urdu is the official language of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Khand, Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka, Hamid Mohammed Khan said that more than one lakh students were studying in the intermediate classes with Urdu as their medium of instruction.

“In Telangana we are having more than 40 Urdu medium junior colleges whereas, there are 156 junior colleges in Maharashtra,” he said.

He urged the Telangana Government to pursue the Centre for inclusion of Urdu and other regional languages in the NEET 2017. (INN)
