President to inaugurate OU centenary celebrations on April 26

Hyderabad: President of India Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the three-day centenary celebrations of Osmania University on April 26.

Addressing a press conference after conducting a review meeting at his chambers in the State Secretariat on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari informed that the President, who would reach Hyderabad from Goa on April 26, will take part in the centenary celebrations from 12.30 PM to 1.30 PM.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and other dignitaries will also attend the ingural ceremony.

The meeting of Osmania University Alumni Meet will be held on April 27 which would be attended Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao. On the same, Union Minister for Human Resources Development Prakash Jevedkar will inaugurate the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference.

The Deputy CM informed that cultural programmes would be organised before Arts College during the three-day celebrations. He said that the State Government has been taking several measures to strengthen the Osmania University. He said that the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 200 crore for OU.

They include Rs. 50 crore for the centenary celebrations. He said a committee, led by former OU VC Tirupath Rao, has been constituted to regularise the services of contract lectures and also to increase their salaries. He said all vacancies in the OU would be filled soon.

Kadiyam sought the cooperation of all political parties in the successful conduct of OU centenary celebrations. (INN)
