Over 80% of Engineers Graduated in 2015 Are Unemployable: Study

Over 80% of engineering graduates passed out in 2015 from over 650 colleges in India are “unemployable”, according a latest research report.

The study of 1,50,000 engineering students, a majority of whom are not employable, highlights alarming skill gap. According to National Employability Report by Aspiring Minds, there is a need to upgrade education and training system.

Every year millions of students pass out as engineers from various educational institutions across India, but corporates often complain of lack of necessary skills and talent among students required for a job.

Aspiring Minds CTO Varun Aggarwal told PTI: “Engineering has become the de-facto graduate degree for a large chunk of students today. However, along with improving the education standards, it is quintessential that we evolve our undergraduate programmes to make them more job centric.”

Delhi tops the list in producing highest number of employable engineers in India, followed by Bengaluru, according to the report.
