SC admits petition against defection of Congress MLAs

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Wednesday admitted a petition for hearing that challenged the defection of Congress MLAs into TRS in Telangana. The Congress had challenged the defections and wanted the defected MLAs to be disqualified.

The apex court issued notices to the TS Assembly Speaker and the defected MLAs to submit their responses within three weeks.

It may be noted that the Congress MLA Sampat Kumar had approached the HC challenging the defections and then knocked the SC doors over the defections. Eight Congress MLAs defected to TRS during the last two years. (INN)

CM convenes all-party meeting on new districts on Aug 20

Hyderabad: In order to discuss the draft notification for formation of new districts in Telangana State, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has decided to convene an all-party meeting on August 20.

The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at his camp office on Tuesday evening. The meeting was attended by minister Jagadish Reddy, MLC Rajeshwar Reddy, CMO Principal Secretary Narsing Rao, Smitha Sabharwal and other officials.

The all-party meeting will be convened on August 20 at 2 PM wherein representatives of TRS, Congress, TDP, MIM, BJP, CPM and CPI would be invited to present their views on the issues.

Prior to the all-party meeting, the Chief Minister will hold discussions with the Cabinet Sub-Committee which held hearings on the issues.

The Chief Minister has also convened State Cabinet meeting on August 20 at 4.30 PM to take a final decision the issue. (INN)

Ministers conduct aerial survey of Pushkar Ghats

Nalgonda: Telangnaa State ministers Jagadish Reddy and Indrakaran Reddy on Tuesday made an aerial survey of the pushkar ghats on the banks of Krishna river to review the security and other arrangements for the pilgrims of the Krishna Pushkaralu.

The ministers inspected the ghats in Nagarjunasagar, Vadapalli, Mettapally during the aerial survey. They directed the officials to ensure that all the facilities were provided to the pilgrims and ensure their safety at the bathing ghats.

The fifth day of the river fete also saw huge rush of devotees in Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda district. (INN)
