Governor appeals Red Cross Society to organise special membership drive

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor and President of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has appealed to the Red Cross Society state branch to organize a special membership drive from November 1st to Dec 31st.

Speaking at 3rd annual general body meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) at Samskruthi Auditorium, Raj Bhavan, the Governor said all educational institutions, students, their parents and other private, public institutions, and voluntary organizations should be invited to enroll themselves as members of the IRCS to take up various voluntary services.

She said Red Cross Society has been synonymous with several voluntary activities and pioneer in organizing blood banks, Nature cure centers, and Old age homes to serve the poor in the state.

The Governor underlined the importance of organizing blood donation camps in districts and directed the district collectors to actively participate to help the poor and needy. IRCS should aim that “nobody in the state should die because of want of blood”, she said.

The Governor felicitated the District Collectors and Police Officers with a gold medal and memento who have been adjudged for their yeoman service in different IRCS activities in their respective districts.

Earlier, the Governor presented a special award to Minister for Tourism and Culture Srinivas Goud for his services for Red Cross Society in Mahaboobnagar district.

TB should be eradicated from Telangana: Governor

Hyderabad: Governor Dr.Tamilisai Soundararajan said that the Tuberculosis (TB) is completely curable and it should be completely eradicated from our State.

The Governor was delivering the inaugural address at the 70th TD Seal Sale Campaign organised by the Tuberculosis Associations of Telangana at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan on Friday.

Dr. Soundararajan was the Chief Guest of the day. She has inaugurated the TB Seal Sale Campaign and distributed the Awards to the winners. Dr.T.V.Venkateswarulu, Retd. Additional Director & Vice – Chairman, TB Association of Telangana has presided over the function and Dr. G.Srinivasa Rao, Director of Public Health & Family Welfare, Telangana, has graced the occasion.

On this occasion, the Governor gave a cheque for a sum of Rs.15,000/- to the State TB Association for the noble cause of the Association.

The Governor said that the people in the rural areas are suffering from this dreaded diseases. Now, there are so many wonderful medicines introduced under the Revised National TB Control Programme and TB patients should take treatment continuously without any break, as suggested by the doctors.

She advised the TB Associations to take steps and see that the TB cases are reduced. For the Research purpose, for the control of TB disease, the research is very costly and hence, the Corporate Sector may be contacted for their involvement and assistance to make Telangana100% TB free State well before 2025.

Governor holds review meeting with VCs, Registrar of State Universities

Hyderabad: The Conference of Vice-Chancellors of Telangana State Universities was held today under the chairmanship of Dr. (Smt.) Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chancellor and Governor of Telangana at Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University. The Conference was attended by all the Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of the Universities.

The TSCHE gave a detailed presentation about the activities of the TSCHE and the various initiatives being undertaken to improve quality access and innovation in the universities such as curriculum upgradation, increasing internship opportunities to students and setting up incubators in Universities.

All the Vice-Chancellors attended and gave detailed presentations about the various activities, programs and important research and academic initiatives.

All the Vice-Chancellors actively interacted with the Governor about campus development, women education, extension and social work activities and villages adopted. She hoped that State of Telangana would emerge as a “Leader” in the field of Higher Education.

The Governor stressed the need to fill up all the vacancies including Vice-Chancellors and faculty members immediately, to develop job oriented courses and also undertake improvements in making the teaching-learning process more interesting and stress free for the students.

The growing role of technology and professional courses in the Universities must be tapped to encourage more women to take up the courses and also contribute to the economic growth.

She also exhorted the Universities to expedite the opportunities of providing study opportunities to NRI students so as to tap the large potential which can be tapped by the Universities and also generate source of revenue to meet growth plans.

She also advised Universities to involve alumni to participate in the University academic and developmental activities. She wanted to achieve accelerated progress in Higher Education similar to the way the statehood was achieved.

Soundararajan also mentioned that the need for inculcating amongst the students a concern for nature and encourage tree plantation and engage with the community regularly rather than intermittently including adoption of villages.

She reminded that the faculty in the Universities should provide the concept of “Academic Social Responsibility” (ASR) so that the schemes of the Government at Central and State level can be effectively implemented and monitored by the educated persons in the society.

She also outlined the need to provide guidance, counselling and mentoring to the students to reduce stress and also give them guidance to undertake studies.

The Governor also gave the following suggestions to the TSCHE for implementation: To promote the concept of “love and learn” and “enjoy and educate”; Strengthen libraries and encourage use of digital resources; The Universities must also concentrate on health of the students by preparing “Health Profile” of students and also develop nutritional index of the students in Telangana and also include Yoga in the curriculum and the Universities must encourage “research and development” activities and prepare a “data bank” of research papers and activities being undertaken by each University.

Soundararajan assured the Vice-Chancellors that the issues discussed in the meeting should be taken up positively and constantly monitored for the progress achieved. (INN)

Governor greets people on Bathukamma festival

Hyderabad: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday greeted the people of Telangana State on the occasion of Bathukamma festival.

“Bathukamma festival symbolises the cultural spirit of Telangana. Bathukamma is characterized by gathering of flowers and different unique floral arrangements. Flowers like gunuka poolu, tengedu poolu and other flowers like banti, chamanti, nandivardhanam etc., are arranged in beautiful patterns.

The worship of Goddess for prosperity, good health and for fulfilment of desires is unique because of its association with flowers. I wish the people of Telangana a happy and joyous Bathukamma Festival,” the Governor said in her message. (INN)

Tamilisai Soundarajan takes oath as Telangana Governor

Hyderabad: Tamilisai Soundarajan took oath as the new Governor of Telangana State here on Sunday.

Soudarajan was administered oath by Chief Justice of High Court Raghuvender Singh Chouhan at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, Ministers, leaders of opposition parties, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other important personalities attended the swearing-in ceremony. Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Panir Selvam also attended the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Soundarajan was accorded a warm welcome on her arrival at the Begumpet Airport. The Chief Minister, Ministers, senior officials and other prominent personalities have warmly welcomed her and members of her family at the Begumpet Airport. She received ceremonial salute from the police and reached Raj Bhavan. (INN)
