Addressing a press conference here, BJP floor leader in Assembly G. Kishan Reddy said that the State Government was making arrangements for centenary celebrations of Osmania University without actually solving the real problems. He pointed out that more than 50% of posts in OU were lying vacant.
Of 152 sanctioned posts of Professors, 150 are vacant; of 511 Associate Professor’s posts, 450 are empty and as against the sanctioned strengthened of 601 Assistant Professors, 69 are vacant.
Therefore, of 1264 posts, 669 are vacant. He said it was meaningless to organise celebrations without filling up these posts.
The BJP leader said that the conditions in other universities across Telangana State were no different. Of 2,773 sanctioned posts in 11 universities, as many as 1,524 are vacant. Similarly, he said thousands of posts in government degree colleges across Telangana State were vacant.
Slamming the TRS Government for its failure to fill the posts, he alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to privatise higher education in the State and proposed Private Universities Bill was part of the same conspiracy.
Kishan Reddy said that the TRS Government has been taking tall of establishing a Forest University, Pharma University and a Tribal University.
However, it was not taking any measures to improve the conditions in existing universities in the State. He said there was a need for establishing residential degree colleges for women. (INN)
