Hyderabad: The Central Team is expected to visit Mamunuru within a week to explore the feasibility of reviving the existing airport to meet the needs of Warangal and its surrounding areas.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Urban Development and Housing Hardeep Singh Puri assured Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao in this regard on Monday.
Rama Rao appealed to the Minister of the Union in New Delhi and urged him to allow the construction of the UDAN airport.
“We also conduct surveys at five other proposed locations in the state. However, the Mamunuru airport is being pursued as a priority given the approximately 11 lakh population in Warangal City and the availability of a runway at the airport.
The authorities of the Aviation Ministry have sought additional land to increase the runway, which will be considered on the basis of the study submitted by the Central Team after their visit, “Rama Rao told the media after his meeting with the Union Minister.
Minister KT Rama Rao also requested the Minister of the Union to grant Rs 2,537.81 Crore to the State under various schemes of the Central Government. The state government has begun construction of 1,4 lakh double-bedroom houses in the state in urban areas where the central funds of Rs 1,184 crore have yet to be released.
Other funds, including Rs 783 crore grant approved by the 15th Finance Commission for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Rs 351.7 crore under the AMRUT scheme and Rs 217 crore under the Swachh Bharat scheme. (INN)
