CM dismisses reports on agitation by farmers

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has dismissed the reports of farmers resorting to violent agitation in Khammam Market Yard.

According to sources, during the meeting of Business Advisory Committee held in the chairmanship of Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary on Saturday, the Chief Minister reportedly claimed that the chilli farmers did not held any agitation. However, he blamed the Congress party for the same and accused it of inciting farmers.

Therefore, he rejected the demand of Congress party for a discussion on the issue in the special session of Assembly being held on Sunday.

The BAC meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, Congress MLA G. Chinna Reddy, MIM MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy and Legislature Secretary Raja S. Sadaram.

Although the special session is being convened to amend Land Acquisition Bill, Deputy CM (Revenue) Mahmood Ali was not present in the BAC meeting.

BJP and TDP MLAs did not attend the BAC meeting as they are presently under suspension. CPI (M) MLA Sunnam Rajaiah abstained from the meeting.

Speaking to media persons later, Leader of Opposition in Council Shabbir Ali and MLA G. Chinna Reddy said that the government was planning to bring four amendments in the Land Acquisition Bill. However, he said they were not aware of those amendments. (INN)
