Congress holds novel protest over ‘Nayee Brahmins’ issue

Hyderabad: The Congress party on Tuesday organised a novel protest to expose Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s false claim that ‘Nayee Brahmins’ (barbers) were being charged domestic tariff for power supply to their saloons.

Led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr. Sravan Dasoju, along with leaders of Nayee Brahmin Association, held the protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhi Bhavan premises.

The Nayee Brahmin community members shaved the beard of a few persons while raising slogans against the KCR Government.

Addressing a press conference later, Sravan said that the GO MS No. 1 which was issued on January 6, 2016, by the Backward Classes Welfare Department converting power consumption charges from Commercial Category to Domestic Category for hair cutting saloons in Telangana State, has remained unimplemented.

He said all the hair cutting saloons are still paying their power bills as per commercial tariff. Despite knowing the fact that the GO was not being implemented, the Chief Minister, while addressing the TRS public meeting on 2nd September, wrongly claimed that ‘Nayee Brahmins’ have been enjoying the domestic tariff, he said.

Sravan said that speaking utter lies does not suit the stature of a man who is holding the post of a Chief Minister. He said concession to ‘Nayee Brahmins’ was among several other lies spoken by KCR in his party’s meeting.

He said that the Chief Minister had also promised to constitute a Governing Council of Nayee Brahmin Federation. But this promise too remained a non-starter.

The TRS party, in its manifesto for 2014 elections, had promised Rs. 250 crore for the welfare of Nayee Brahmins and setting up of 25,000 ultra-modern saloons.

These promises also remain unfulfilled. Sravan demanded that the State Government take immediate measures to implement GO MS No. 1 and also implement other promises made with the Nayee Brahmin community.

Sravan also appealed members of Nayee Brahmin community to realise that they have been cheated by TRS Government and asked them to stay cautious against KCR.

He assured that the Congress party, after coming to power in next elections, would ensure the welfare and development of all Backward Classes, including Nayee Brahims.
