Hyderabad: The Congress party on Saturday announced that it would intensify the protest against the demolition of places of worship in the Secretariat.
Hyderabad City Congress Minorities Department Chairman Sameer Waliullah said that the ‘Black Flags’ campaign launched by the Congress party last week in protest against the demolition of two mosques and a temple has evoked huge tremendous response across Telangana State.
He said people, especially in Hyderabad, have voluntarily hoisted black flags at their residences. Thousands of people have started wearing ‘black masks’ and ‘badges’.
He appealed to the people to intensify this protest by hoisting black flags on their home and by wearing black masks and badges. He said people must express their anger against the decision of the TRS Government through this silent protest. “The protest should not and will not stop untill the State Government reconstruct the places of worship at their original sites,” he said.
“It is highly regrettable that except for issuing a vague clarification and apology through a press release, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao did not give an assurance on the re-construction of mosques at the same place where they existed before demolition.
Further, the authorities have demolished two mosques and the Chief Minister has been giving assurance on re-construction of one mosque. It clearly means that CM KCR wants Muslims to forget the other mosque which is completely unacceptable,” he said in a media statement on Saturday.
Sameer Waliullah also condemned the Wakf Board for its silence over the demolition of two mosques despite the fact that both were Wakf properties and one of them was a heritage structure. He said that the Wakf Board should have lodge a police complaint against the demolition.
However, Wakf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem is trying to mislead the Muslim community and openly defending the demolition of mosques. Home Minister Mahmood Ali is also cheating the Muslims on the issue by giving misleading statements,” he said.
The Congress leader demanded that all Muslim leaders resign from their posts till CM KCR gives a written assurance that both the mosques would be re-constructed at the same site. He said that the re-construction of mosques should not be linked to the construction of the new Secretariat.
“Construction of the new Secretariat should begin only after re-construction of both the mosques at the same site. Else, we will not allow the construction of the Secretariat itself,” he warned.
Sameer Waliullah said that a decision on the next phase of agitation would be finalised after discussion with the senior leaders. (INN)
