Hyderabad: All India Professional Congress (AIPC) Telangana Chapter chairman Dr. Dasoju Sravan said that the Congress party would take the suggestions of professionals from various fields in drafting its manifesto for 2019 elections.
In his presidential address to the day-long symposium on “Integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with India’s Development Agenda – Inputs for Congress Manifesto 2019″ here on Saturday, Sravan said that the professionals could share their views on how the country in general and Telangana in particular could be developed and the same would be incorporated in the party’s manifesto. He said that the professionals could play an important role in transformation of society even if they wish to stay away from active politics.
Sravan said that all sections of the society, including professionals, have played an active role in the statehood agitation. Therefore, he said that the professionals should involve themselves in drafting a manifesto that reflects the aspirations of all sections. He also alleged that Prime Minister Narender Modi came to power based on several promises that he made with the people. However, he said that the BJP-led NDA Government failed to implement any of the promises. Therefore, he said that the involvement of professionals was essential to make political parties accountable and to build pressure upon them to fulfill the promises.
AIPC South India Coordinator Dr. J. Geetha Reddy said that the AIPC was a forum established by Congress president Rahul Gandhi under the leadership of Sashi Tharoor to bring all professionals onto a single platform. She urged the professionals to join the AIPC and play a role in strengthening the nation with their ideas and views.
Former Vice-Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority Marri Sashidhar Reddy stressed on protection of environment and said it was directly linked to the factors responsible for sustainable growth. He said no country or State could progress without having a clean and safe environment. However, he alleged that the present TRS Government was ruining the environment by violating all prescribed norms. Kaleshwaram Project was a glaring example of violation of environmental norms, he alleged.
The symposium was also addressed by experts from various fields including Prof. K. Purshottam Reddy, Prof. Subba Rao, Syed Ahmed Ameeruddin, Irfan Aziz, Dr. Tulasi Rao, Feroz Khan, Raji Reddy and others. Votes of thanks were proposed by Irfan Aziz of APIC. (INN)
