Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan said that the Congress party would take the legal battle against manipulation of EVMs and other irregularities in the recently held Assembly elections to its logical end.
Addressing a review meeting at Indira Bhavan on Sunday with the Congress party workers of Khairtabad Assembly constituency from where he had contested as Praja Kutami candidate, Sravan said that the Congress was doing booth-wise review of EVM manipulations in all the constituencies across Telangana State.
He said the analysis of Khairtabad constituency clearly established that the results were manipulated in favour of TRS party. Citing instances, he said there was a mismatch of about 400 votes in as many as 19 polling booths in Khairtabad constituency alone.
Sravan said the polling percentage in Khairtabad constituency was 34% till 3 pm. He said it takes at least one minute to cast one vote. However, the poll authorities have declared that nearly 52,000 votes were polled from 3 pm to 5 pm. This was possible only if 218 votes were polled in all 238 polling booths in the constituency which is impossible.
Therefore, he alleged that said additional polling was done illegally till 7 pm in favour of TRS. He said this was the main reason for the mismatch between the actual votes polled and those counted in EVMs.
He said that the pattern of EVM manipulation was similar in almost all the constituencies. Therefore, he said that the Congress party would wage a legal battle against this and would not rest until it gets justice.
Sravan thanked the Congress party workers for the cooperation and hard work during the campaign. He said he had begun his career as a Faculty in Administrative Staff College of India located in Khairtabad where he served from 1990 to 1993.
He said it was a privilege for him to begin his career in electoral career from Khairtabad constituencies. He said he got positive feedback from the people and also from intelligence officials after the polling predicting his victory. However, he said he had lost due to EVM manipulation by the ruling party.
The Congress leader asked the party workers not to get disheartened from the results and continue to serve the people without aspiring for any positions. During the 20-day campaign, he said that he had learned about several problems being faced by the people in Khairtabad constituency.
They include problems pertaining to roads, drainage, drinking water, housing and land regularisation. Unlike common perception, he said one could represent and solve people’s problem while in opposition than in power.
Therefore, he said that the Congress cadre should able active in identifying the problems being faced by people and work hard to resolve them.
Sravan asked the party workers to stay in touch with the people and identify the deserving beneficiaries for Unemployment Allowance, ration cards and double bed room houses.
He said the Congress workers should collect the data and make effective representation with the government to ensure that all deserving people gain from the government schemes.
The Congress leader also asked the party cadre not to fear the TRS Government which was trying t harass them by implicating them in false cases and other means. He said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was trying to weaken the Congress party by buying out MLAs and MLCs.
He said that the Congress party has a long history of fighting suppression and bouncing back to power. He said Parliament elections were only a few months away and therefore, all Congress workers must work hard to make Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister of India.
The meeting was also addressed by Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president M. Anjan Kumar Reddy, TPCC leader Madhukar Yadav, ex-corporator Sharif, Mahesh Yadav, Indira, Koteshwaramma, Kammari Venkatesh, N. Naresh, Suman, Kavith and others. (INN)
