Deccani Poets Sing for Unity & Tolerance at Samaj Darpan Mushaira in Hyderabad

Poetry of unity and tolerance prevailed and brought cheers on faces of audience at 22nd Annual Harmony Urdu Hindi Poets Gathering in Hyderabad’s famous Ravindra Bharathi Auditorium.

Speaking at the Mizahiya Mushaira as chief guest, Urdu Academy director S A Shukoor said that satire aimed at rectifying evils in the society must be part of a Mizahiya Mushaira.

On the same occasion, Doordarshan deputy director Shujat Ali IIS conveyed the message of tolerance with a couplet in Urdu: “Parindo me firqa parasti nahi hoti, wo kabhi Masjid pe aur kabhi mandir pe baith jate hai

A Deccani Hindi poet from Hyderabad, Narendra Rai “Naren” specifically sent a message to intolerant people in the country. He asked them not to spread hatred, as upcoming generations have to live together.

Narendra Rai “Naren”:

Beej jo nafrat ke bote, unse kehna hae,

Ho bhale hi do kinaare, sath behna hae,

Is tarah na phailao nafrat fiza me,

Aane wali naslon ko sath rehna hae;

On social service and humanness, Naren read:

Kaam na aaye kisi ke zindegi achchi nahi,

Khatl-o-khoon ke sath jo ho, bandegi achchi nahi,

Deep khud jal jaata hae dosti se,

Dusron ka ghar jalakar roshni achchi nahi;

Giving a hint of Hyderabad’s celebrated Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, Naren recited:

Vishwas hae ye firqa parast hil ke rahenge,

Deccan men ekta ke phool khil ke rahenge,

Hum haeN Hyderabadi milke rakhenge;

Another poet from Hyderabad, Sardar Asar mesmerized audience with his poetry and Deccani style:

Izzat apni bechko naukri tho nain kara,

Bhukka rehko jeeliya chamchagiri tho nain kara,

Ghup andhere me rahaa zindegi saari ‘Asar’,

Ghar padosi ka jalaako raoshni tho nain kara;

Taking a note of contemporary situation in the country, Asar recited satirical verses:

Naam pe mazhab ke jo khun bahaane nikle haeN

Maela dil lekar jo watan ko “Swacch” banaane nikle haeN;

Aap bataaiyye aese amal par hansdeyN ya royeN hum;

Insano ko kaatne wale Gaaye bachaane nikle haeN;

In another satirical couplet, Asar recited:

Pehle din se hae daorowN pe daore, In hukoomat karey sarika hae;

Gaaye ke naam pe qatal horaeN, achchee din aaye sarika hae;

Taking a dig at Acche Din satirically, Fareed Saher recited:

“Aachhe din” ab aa rahe haeN dosto,

Haole kuch farmaa rahe haeN dosto;

Humse wada 12% ka raha, uska aadha bhi naheN abtak mila,

Ek vada magar pura hua, Deputy CM hamara ban gaya;

A poet that made audience break into laughter was Khat Phat Bhainsawi:

ArmaanoN ki bel ku khundal daale kya,

Phool jaesa dil tha masal daale kya,

Ab kahaan vo ishqe haqeeqi ka zamaana hae,

Sirf apne mureedoN ko ghumaana hae;

Udher marre kukaatiyaaN jidher zanaana hae;

Another beautiful couplet from Khat Phat Bhainsawi:

Teri shadise hajaamat hogai na, ye jumaagiyaaN ki himaaqat kaiku re;

BetiyaaN tho khuda ki rehmat hae, tujhe betiyowN se nafrat kaiku re;

Poet Yusufuddin Yusuf was critical of current government. His verses in Deccani style say it all:

Baat karna tho sambhal kar karna, Munh par cheente udaana achcha kya;

Munh men apni zabaan rakhko bhi, Munh pe ta’ala lagaana achcha kya;

15 lakh tho account me aaich nai, Sutaan pehenke murasna achcha kya;

Mann Ki Baateyn tho bahot kartain, Sach ko mann men chupana achcha kya!
