EC restriction on exit polls

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has issued an order imposing a ban on conducting of exit polls and the publication of its results in Telangana State during the period from 7 AM on November 12 to 5.30 PM on December 7.

A notification has been issued to this effect under Section 126A of the Representation of People Act.

This step is taken to avoid any possible influence of the exit polls/opinion polls and their results on the voters and finally on the polling pattern, which may undermine the conduct of free and fair elections.

The restriction will be in force for 25 days from the first day of filing nominations (November 12) and up to the close of the polling on the polling day (December 7).

The order prohibits not only conducting of any exit/opinion pots but also the publication or publicizing of its results by means of print or electronic media or dissemination in any manner whatsoever.
