EC to act tough against MCC violations

Hyderabad: In view of the announcement of schedule on March 10 for the General Elections to Lok Sabha, 2019, enforcement of Model Code of Conduct is being implemented in the state by removing 4,098 wall writings, 29,526 posters, 975 cutouts, 11,485 banners, 3,498 flags and 7,308 other materials within 24 hours across all 33 districts of the Telangana State. In addition an amount of Rs.90.50 lakhs has been seized by Hyderabad City Police today.

Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Rajat Kumar has informed that instructions were issued imposing a complete ban on use of official vehicles by political functionaries for non-official purposes and directions were also issued to stop all the advertisements in the Print & Electronic media.

The photographs of National and State functionaries have also been removed from official websites of the state departments and the Information & Technology Department has been directed to confirm compliance.

The toll free number 1950 of the call centre is already in operation and in addition 24×7 control rooms have been activated in all districts within 24 hours from the announcement of elections.

The 24×7 TV News channels recording and monitoring centre has been established n CEO’s office on MCC code violations and suspected paid news etc. An agency has been engaged to monitor social media platform for MCC violations.

The Election Commission of India has issued updated list of 62 disqualified persons, of which 45 contested for Telangana-Legislative Assembly and 17 contested for Telangana-House of the People under section 10-A of the Representation of people Act, 1951 for the official use of the Returning Officers.
