Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao said that 18 works have been completed under the Rs 30,000 crore Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) in the city of Hyderabad and works worth Rs 6000 are in various stages of progress.
The minister speaking in the State Assembly here on Friday during question hour said that land acquisition would be speeded up for road widening to enable free movement of traffic at junctions.
KT Rama Rao said that the SRDP programme has so far completed 9 flyovers, 4 underpasses, 3 roads over bridges, 1 bridge and 1 cable bridge.
He told the house that the job of studying the traffic and pollution issues was given to Lee Associates Pvt Ltd, and suggested ways to solve those problems.”After over two years, they researched the situation and submitted a detailed report.”
Answering questions about the delay in the acquisition of land to complete the remaining projects, the Minister said that the GHMCCommissioner was made Special Collector Land Acquisition as the capital area stretches to the districts of Hyderabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy and Medchal.
“The city of Hyderabad has already entered the Gridlock stage with lakhs of vehicles coming onto the road. So we’re trying to ease the traffic problem by widening roads, establishing connexions and also educating the people on lane discipline,” he said.
He added that attempts are being made to make TSRTC and Metro services more effective on the roads for east vehicle traffic. The discussions included MLAs Arikepudi Gandhi, Devi Reddy Sudheer Reddy and Akbaruddin Owaisi. (INN)
