Ex-minister Shankar Rao quits Congress

Hyderabad: In protest against denial of ticket to contest from Shadnagar Assembly constituency, former minister Dr. P Shankar Rao has resigned from the Congress party.

Shankar Rao had served as MLA for three terms and was also a minister in the cabinet of Dr. Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy. However, the Congress party did not consider his candidature to contest next elections and replaced him with Pratap Reddy.

Shankar Rao wrote an open letter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi alleging huge discrepancies in the process of selection of candidates. He is also likely to contest as an independent or on the ticket of Samajwadi Party. (INN)
