Heavy rains bring city to halt

Hyderabad: Heavy rains, along with strong winds, have brought the normal life in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to a standstill on Thursday afternoon.

While falling of trees and poles badly hit the movement of vehicular traffic on several roads, heavy rains led to water stagnation on many roads.

The Emergency Teams of GHMC immediately swung into action and attended to various complaints of uprooting of trees and stagnation of water on roads. GHMC Mayor Dr. Bonthu Rammohan, along with senior officials, personally monitored emergency situation from the Commanding Control Room at 7th floor in GHMC head office.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy visited Red Hills, Vijay Nagar Colony and other areas where trees have fallen due to heavy rains and personally monitored the emergent situation where the emergency teams have removed the fallen trees which were obstructing the traffic.

He also inspected some of the water logging and stagnation points in some of the areas where the teams are clearing the points immediately for the Convenience of the citizens.

The Commissioner directed all the ZC’S DCs and all the Engineering officials and emergency teams to be vigil n alert to tackle the emergency situations.

The GHMC Control Room received reports of falling of 77 trees and six electrical poles and 31 complaints of water stagnation. (INN)
